HERBAL STEAM THERAPY

BAJO

Bajo is connected with the Maya - "Bajo" can mean "lowland or down under". When we look at the uterine lining under a microscope we see these are in fact the sacred lowlands of life itself.

This ancient practice of Bajo also can be known as yoni steaming, vaginal steaming, pelvic steaming or chai-yok. Bajo has been practiced so far back in history it is hard to date exactly how old this practice is. It was and is still an integral part of women's lives. This practice has aided woman from a vast array of indigenous cultures such as Asia, Africa, Australia and South America. These woman have used Bajo to treat dis ease within and maintain balance within the reproductive space. In some tribes girls would be celebrated when her first menstruation began and she would be crafted a Bajo stool. That she would continue to use for the duration of her reproductive life. The practice of allowing plant medicine infused steam to penetrate the tissues of the external vaginal areas and internal tissues has supported and nourished women as a healing modality for a time we can not pin point. This ancient practice was potentially a bridge that allowed women to connect not only to there own wombs but the cosmic womb of this world, which also births the medicinal flowers and herbs before our eyes. This practice not only healed the physical body but it is likely it empowered the community in healing the sacred feminine energies of our collective also. The sacred space within the woman is the fertile soil of a divine gardener. It is vital that a woman feels aligned and safe within her female body to harness her power in the world. The anatomy of the woman is connected to the world that surrounds her. As women we experience the cycle of this world. We move through the phases of the tides. We absorb the joys and light of the world with the same pace we absorb the pain and its sorrows. The sacredness of the female reproductive system has been connected to the The Holy Grail. It was a definitive time in our past when the grail became lost solely as an object that man could once again possess.

We heal the womb, we heal the world

"Bajo is a practice that assists the bodies natural healing functions whilst connecting us to a deep internal nourishment that is personal to each woman, each cycle and each practice as the woman moves through her life as a womban. "

BENIFITS OF PRACTICING BAJO

When the compounds of medicinal healing herbs are infused with the water vapour, the medicinal compounds are carried into the whole reproductive system to a deep tissue level. This practice aims to reach areas of the body that are unreachable in conventional medicine. The lining of the uterus is likened to that of valleys and hills. Quite literally a beautiful landscape were life is able to grow. As the cycle of the the woman approaches shedding (menstrual phase) the rich blood lining that was built so carefully over the woman's cycle is now released. If this process occurs and the woman is exposed to certain energies through the phases; such as stress and unexpressed/internalised emotions this lining can become hard and crystalized. This is the 'common' period pain that most of us have experienced at some point of our menstruating lives. This "pain" is the uterus contracting forcefully to release the stagnated and crystalized blood that forms on the valleys and hills. This energy must be shed in the external and the internal systems. The process of Bajo assists our natural bodily process in releasing this no longer needed cycle, whilst also inviting us to go within. We can soften and soothe tension, we can rest, we can surrender and we can heal even the deepest of womb traumas through this practice. Treating an array of conditions that we can not always "explain".

The practice itself lasts up to 20-30 minutes. A brew of selected herbs are chosen to each individuals needs; then infused with boiling water,  simmered and placed within a stool at a very low consistent heat where the woman will remain seated and supported through her treatment.

We commonly see a vast array of hormonal and reproductive conditions which at times become life restricting for many.  Painful, uncomfortable and abnormal reproductive abnormalities have been simply labelled as side of effects of being a menstruating woman in the so called modern world. I have faith that Bajo helped me, therefore she can potentially help other woman access a lost connection to not only there physical reproductive harmony but deep inner wisdom of the womb.
